Anthropologists for the Boycott of Israeli Academic Institutions is pleased to announce the release of “Reflections on Anthropology, Politics, and the Grassroots Movement to Boycott Israeli Academic Institutions.” This free e-book features a dozen essays by anthropologists in support of the boycott, including Ann Stoler, Thomas Blom Hansen, James Ferguson, Jemima Pierre, and Brian Boyd.
These are only some of the many anthropologists who have added their voices to the groundswell of international support for the boycott of Israeli academic institutions complicit in the occupation and oppression of Palestinians. They have written numerous compelling articles detailing the reasons why such a boycott is necessary to bring peace and social justice to Israel/Palestine.
Members of the American Anthropological Association (AAA) are currently voting on whether or not to ratify a resolution that calls on the AAA to endorse and implement this institutional boycott.
This resolution was first put before the membership during the 2015 annual meeting of the AAA in Denver, CO, where it passed by an overwhelming margin of 1,040 votes in favor to 136 against. If the measure is approved on the Spring Ballot, the AAA will become the largest academic association in the United States yet to endorse the Palestinian call to boycott.
